Nail Fungus Treatment For Cracked, Yellow and infected Toenails

By Marie Fratzen

Nail fungus can be a particularly disfiguring and embarrassing condition. This condition is not normally painful, but it can make it difficult to live a normal life because going to the beach, wearing sandals or visiting a public swimming pool are all restricted. The worst thing about nail fungus is that it is extremely difficult to get rid it, but with the right nail fungus treatment you can eliminate it.

First, you must understand what causes nail fungus. Nail fungus is usually found on the toenails, but in some rare cases it has appeared on the fingernails. Fungal spores attach to the nails and while they easily die, in the right conditions they can instead grow rapidly and if that happens and your nails become infected, the fungus will prove very difficult to get rid of.

The right environment is the perfect breeding ground, and unfortunately, this can happen in your very own shoes. Fungi need a dark, warm and moist environment to grow and those that rarely change their socks, or wear their shoes without socks, often provide this environment.

The reason that you don't find many cases of toenail fungus in countries where people are too poor to afford shoes, and nearly everyone wears open toed sandals or goes barefoot, is because when the fungus is exposed to the sunlight and the feet are dry, the fungus dies, and so it cannot spread and cause the symptoms associated with toenail fungal infections.

You will have a very hard time getting rid of your toenail fungus once you have it. However, it is not impossible. You need to start with the prevention measures already listed. First, try to go barefoot as much as possible, and don't trap your feet inside of shoes. Also, change your socks daily and make sure that they are dry. Dry your feet after a shower and never wear shoes without socks.

Aside from that, you have a regimen that you will have to follow each day in order to completely eliminate the toenail fungus. First, you will need some tineacide. This medication is sold under different brand names, but any medicine that is actually labeled tineacide will do the trick.

Second, you will have to keep your nails trimmed and fungus free. This is because if you let the nails go without trimming them, you will find that they will start to curl inwards, which can not only be extremely embarrassing if you decide to go to the beach or want wear sandals, but it can also be painful in some cases, creating what is known as an ingrown toenail.

File your nails regularly if you can, because the more of the infected nail that you scrape away with the file, the faster your nail fungus treatment will work. The fungus will have a hard time growing if you keep removing it.
